Derby County are among the clubs said to be discussing a deal for the Chelsea forward, months after he was linked with Sheffield Wednesday.

Lucas Piazon’s name has reared its head again, three months after the Chelsea forward was said to have held talks with Sheffield Wednesday (Goal).

But what’s the latest with the Brazilian – and could Wednesday be back for him in January?

HITC takes a look…

What’s his situation?

No games all season and in the final year of contract at Chelsea, Piazon will almost certainly move on in 2019. And according to Yahoo Sport, the Blues have discussed re-homing the former Fulham loanee with Valencia, Derby County and Corinthians.

Do Sheffield Wednesday still need him?

Piazon is certainly a player the Owls could have done with in recent weeks. With Marco Matias and Fernando Forestieri missing throughout that time, Jos Luhukay’s side have lacked cutting edge in the final third – scoring twice in five games.

Could the Owls try again this winter?

It is not improbable, although it would perhaps take one of Matias or Forestieri to leave or (perhaps more realistically) pick up further injuries for Wednesday to consider an approach – and even then they may struggle to fund the permanent move likely to be favoured by Chelsea. The chance to join Valencia would hold obvious appeal, while Derby (managed by Piazon’s former Blues teammate, Frank Lampard) and Corinthians (based in the 24-year-old’s hometown) are each good fits, leaving Wednesday with a battle on if they do wish to sign him.
