The Southampton striker was linked with a move to Sheffield United a year ago.
A player Sheffield United targeted during last summer’s transfer window could also be available this time around. According to Sky Sports, Southampton are willing to let the striker, Sam Gallagher, leave St Mary’s.
And the broadcaster adds that Gallagher has interest from unnamed clubs in both the Premier and Championship leagues.
The Sun credited both Sheffield United and Blackburn Rovers with interest in the 23-year-old a year ago, and claimed the latter club were ‘plotting a £5 million bid’ for him earlier this week.
And while there is no mention of the Blades’ name yet, it would come as little surprise to learn Chris Wilder’s side are again in the mix for a player who has impressed while on loan to second-tier clubs from Southampton.
Sheffield United have seen their on-loan strikers, Scott Hogan and Gary Madine, return to parent clubs since the end of the campaign.
And Madine’s space is one that Gallagher, who stands at a similar height of six-feet-four-inches, is certainly equipped to fill.
The Southampton academy product’s £24,000-a-week wages – which The Sun suggested last year that United would struggle to meet – could also tie in nicely with the Blades’ increased, albeit modest, budget.
Although, whether or not he is indeed a Sheffield United target remains to be seen for now.
