Speaking on the Talking Transfers Podcast, Graeme Bailey has been discussing Chelsea’s interest in Anthony Gordon from Everton.

The Blues are very keen to sign Gordon, and as has been speculated with almost every deal this summer, Bailey is reportedly that Todd Boehly could look to do an American-style trade deal for the attacker.

Indeed, according to Bailey, Chelsea may well offer three or even four players for Gordon.

What’s been said?

The journalist shared what he knows about this potential deal.

“I don’t think it’s a straight £45m, it’s also players that Lampard could get, he particularly likes Billy Gilmour, Ross Barkley is interesting. It’s an interesting one with Gordon, this could be a real Todd Boehly baseball-type trade deal here, we could see three or four Chelsea players involved in this,” Bailey said.

“They like Barkley, Gilmour, Broja and Batshuayi, and you could see them all going. It could almost be a straight swap couldn’t it? Why would Chelsea do it? Well that’s an awful lot of wages they would be saving.”

Surely not

While Boehly may like the idea of swap deals, it’s almost impossible to see this one actually coming off.

As Bailey says, Chelsea would be open to this idea so they can save on wages, but Chelsea’s saving would be Everton’s burden.

Indeed, the likes of Barkley, Batshuayi, Gilmour and Broja won’t be coming to Goodison Park to play for free, and this deal may actually end up costing Everton a bomb if they were to take these terms.

Everton, quite simply, don’t have the money to pay all of these players the wages they would be wanting, and for that reason, we have to say that this remarkable swap deal isn’t an actual possibility.
