Sam Allardyce has caused frustration at Everton by leaving out Cenk Tosun, but it could yet turn out to be a smart move.

Everton have recently been training in Dubai, where Tosun is believed to have impressed the coaching staff.

Tosun has been held back at Everton since signing from Besiktas, which has caused great frustration at Goodison Park.

There has been question marks over why exactly Allardyce has not been using Tosun.

But if the 26-year-old now hits the ground running, then Allardyce may actually have to take some praise.

By keeping Tosun in reserve, Allardyce has given the clinical forward time to settle in at Goodison Park, away from the spotlight.

Everton threw in the likes of Davy Klaassen and Sandro Ramirez straight away in the summer, and they both struggled badly.

Allardyce will certainly want to avoid a repeat of those transfer failures, and if the experienced boss does manage to get the best out of Tosun between now and the end of the season, he could prove he was right all along to leave the Turkish international out.
