Leeds United fans are sweating over the fitness of Patrick Bamford.

The United hitman scored the winner in Saturday’s 1-0 victory at Bristol City, but was seen moving gingerly prior to his substitution on 57 minutes.

Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa said afterwards that it wasn’t wise to speculate on whether Bamford will be fit for Tuesday’s trip to Reading.

With Kemar Roofe absent and Tyler Roberts impressing in a number 10 role, Bielsa is short on strikers and if Bamford isn’t available to visit the Royals, could the Argentine bring Ryan Edmondson back into the senior squad?

It seems plausible.

Bielsa gave the 17-year-old forward a 20-minute cameo in a home defeat by Birmingham City back in September, but he hasn’t been seen since.

He is, however, scoring plenty of goals for Leeds Under-23s and he might be the best option, if the Whites boss has to call a youth striker into the senior squad.

In an ideal world, Bamford will be fit to face Reading next week, because injury could be detrimental for United’s promotion hopes, but Bielsa isn’t afraid to play youth and Edmondson seems like the obvious player to replace him in the squad if the 25-year-old is out.
