Could Rossiter’s Rangers future look bleak if Davis and Kamara join?

Glasgow Rangers are reportedly closing in on two midfield additions as Steven Gerrard makes waves in the transfer window.

Steven Gerrard has not only sent a warning to Rangers’ title rivals during the opening week of the transfer window, but his players have also been put on notice.

The Evening Times reports that the Gers are closing in on deals for Jermain Defoe and Steven Davis, as well as pre-contract moves for Jordan Jones and Glen Kamara.

It would appear that both Jones and Kamara will head to Ibrox in the summer, but the Evening Times suggests that a January move is not out of the question if their respective clubs decide to cash in.

It is a tremendous follow-up statement from Rangers after they won the Old Firm game so convincingly before the winter break. But it is also a statement that hints that some players currently at Ibrox could be on borrowed time.

The area of the squad that looks set to benefit most from the additions is in the middle of the park. Davis and Kamara – if the latter joins immediately – will rival the likes of Ryan Jack, Scott Arfield and Ross McCrorie for a place in the side, and certainly provide the kind of depth that Rangers may need.

But what could the potential double deal mean for Jordan Rossiter?

Gerrard’s appointment in the summer appeared to be ideal for the 21-year-old, who came through the ranks at Liverpool before heading to the Scottish Premiership in 2016.

And the stage seemed to be somewhat set for Gerrard to be the manager to help Rossiter finally realise his potential as he put in a superb performance in the incredible 5-5 draw with Hibernian on the final day of last season, just days after Gerrard’s imminent appointment was announced.

However, the youngster has continued to struggle with injury – he has made 16 appearances in all competitions in two-and-a-half seasons with the Gers – and these new signings must raise doubt regarding whether Gerrard still has him in his plans.

It is incredibly unfortunate for Rossiter, who has arguably impressed almost every time he has stepped out onto the pitch.

But with the pecking order seemingly about to gain two more names, Rangers fans would be forgiven for wondering whether Gerrard is actually going to be the manager to bring an end to Rossiter’s Ibrox career at some stage.
