West Ham United could keep David Moyes into next season.
After beating Watford 2-0 on Saturday afternoon, West Ham United boss David Moyes appears to be in a strong position to keep his job in the London Stadium dugout.
The Hammers have enjoyed a noticeable upturn in results since Moyes replaced Slaven Bilic, and whilst his deal only runs until the end of the season, the signs are pointing towards Moyes staying in East London.
Moyes himself told The Guardian that he is expecting a reform of the club’s recruitment approach to give him more control, whilst co-chairman David Sullivan told the club’s official website last week that he wants to see Moyes in charge for many years yet.
If Moyes does land a contract extension – and more control over transfers – then it may just enable him to give Robert Snodgrass a greater role at the club, given that TEAMtalk reported that Moyes wanted to bring him back in January, but Gold and Sullivan were unsure due to a £2.5million recall clause in his Aston Villa loan deal.
Moyes seemingly holds compatriot Snodgrass in high regard, despite the fact that his West Ham career so far has been a damp squib, having registered no goals and just two assists in 15 games before being sent to Villa.
Reunited under his former Hull boss Steve Bruce, Snodgrass has thrived in the Championship, notching six goals and nine assists in 26 games, prompting Moyes’ interest in bringing him back.
The 30-year-old wide man would be expected to complete a permanent move to Villa Park if Bruce’s men win promotion back to the Premier League, but additional power for Moyes could just tempt West Ham into keeping hold of him.
Moyes does still have the likes of Manuel Lanzini, Marko Arnautovic and Michail Antonio at his disposal who can play out wide, but a hard-working wide man with excellent delivery from open play and set pieces would be welcome for Moyes – and Snodgrass’ future may yet lie with the Hammers after all.
