Glasgow Rangers boss Steven Gerrard may need to find a new understudy goalkeeper at Ibrox next season.

One area of Rangers’ squad that Steven Gerrard may not need to worry about strengthening this summer is in goal with Allan McGregor enjoying an outstanding campaign.
The veteran has completely vindicated the decision to replace Wes Foderingham as the number one at Ibrox. Foderingham divided opinion, but he has been a fantastic servant for the Gers and is arguably the best second-choice goalkeeper in the Scottish Premiership. In fact, he is better than most of the number ones in the division.
With that in mind, it would not be a surprise if the Englishman set his sights on leaving the club this summer. He will surely not want to spend another year waiting for domestic cup ties to come around so he can get a game.
And with the Evening Times recently reporting that Jak Alnwick is also looking set to leave Rangers, it appears that Gerrard will have a decision to make regarding his goalkeeper options, even if he does not need to think about signing a new number one.

Gerrard may want to bring another player in. But he should not rule out the idea of sticking with what he has and promoting Robby McCrorie to the bench next season after his encouraging loan spell with Morton.
Like his brother, McCrorie appears to have a lot of potential. And while another loan may be beneficial, working closely with McGregor and being in the matchday squad on a regular basis could be just as helpful to his development.
That could set the stage perfectly for McCrorie to perhaps succeed McGregor in the coming years when the former Scotland international decides to hang up his gloves.
