Moyes appears to be of the opinion that Hugill is not good enough to start yet, which echoes fears Hammers had when the striker signed from Preston.
Pressure is building on West Ham’s board after another troubled transfer window, which has already seen the decision to sell Andre Ayew come back to bite them spectacularly, with the Ghanaian inspiring Swansea’s 4-1 win over the Hammers last weekend.
West Ham co-owners David Gold and David Sullivan are trying to stave off supporter protests, and hope to get everybody pulling in the same direction.
What they really need is for January signing Hugill to start scoring goals, and get everybody talking for the right reasons.
Moyes has selected Hugill for just 12 minutes of action in over a month, and does not believe yet that the £8 million forward is a difference maker.
But if the manager continues this stance, it is very possible this could cost him his job, with West Ham’s owners determined for their signing to be seen as a success to ease the pressure on themselves.
If Moyes won’t select him, Gold and Sullivan may choose to appoint a ‘yes man’ who will.
