Nottingham Forest could be short of midfielders come the summer.
If Nottingham Forest’s takeover is anything like Swansea City’s, there could be an American invasion at the City Ground come the new year.
The Reds’ prospective new owner, United States businessman John Jay Moores, has already been tipped to bring fellow countryman Brad Friedel to Trentside, in either a coaching or director of football capacity, and may not stop there.
Forest’s squad is in desperate need of reinforcements, and Moores could be keen to look closer to home in a bid to enhance the Championship side’s reputation across the pond.
One player to perhaps keep an eye on is Reading midfielder Danny Williams. The 27-year-old, who has played 22 times for the USMNT, is out of contract at the end of this season, and is yet to commit to the Royals.
With Forest midfielders Henri Lansbury, David Vaughan and Chris Cohen also in the final year of their deals, the centre of the park is likely to be a primary area of concern for whoever is charge of transfers at the City Ground – and landing the energetic Williams would go some way to alleviating the issue.
Reading’s current league position (fourth) could be an obstacle for Forest, although the Royals nosedived when similarly well-placed last season, eventually finishing 17th, something that is perhaps at the back of Williams’ mind as he avoids signing a new deal.
By January, there could be less to choose between the two teams and the former Hoffenheim player may be keen to move to a place that feels a little more like home.
