Rangers boss Pedro Caixinha is reportedly pursuing other targets, despite reports of a possible Ibrox reunion.

Rangers have abandoned their pursuit of one Mexican right-back, Jose Abella, according to the Scottish Sun.
But should Pedro Caixinha’s side turn to another this summer?
Who?
Miguel Layun is an attacking, predominantly right-sided, full-back who plays for Portuguese giants FC Porto, to whom he moved from Premier League Watford in 2015. Known for his pace and crossing ability, Layun has often been utilised further up the right flank for club and country, Mexico, for whom he has 46 caps. That he has 2.2 million Twitter followers suggests he’d be a popular figure at Rangers, and he just so happens to be Abella’s second cousin.

Is he available?
It certainly looks that way, with Layun having made just 12 league starts in 2016-17. But while his Porto career may not have gone to plan so far, it does not appear to have deterred others from wanting to sign him, with Roma, Newcastle United, Sevilla and Espanyol – whose manager, Quique Sanchez Flores, he worked with at Watford – all said to be keen. His ownership of a Spanish passport means he, unlike Abella, would not require a work permit to play for Rangers.

Why would he come to Rangers?
Though not as glamorous a destination as Italy, Spain or England might be, Layun is sure to be at least a little bit intrigued by Pedro’s Portu-Mex revolution at Rangers. International teammates Carlos Pena and Eduardo Herrera appear destined to move to Ibrox in the coming days and weeks, and there may be a part of the 28-year-old that’s tempted to join them. In Rangers’ favour, Layun would know he’d likely walk straight into their side. However, the reputation of the Scottish Premiership, the Gers’ wage budget and a rumoured £5.2 million asking price could make things difficult for them.
