Glasgow Rangers missed out on bringing Tyler Roberts to Ibrox as he headed elsewhere during the January transfer window.

During the January transfer window, the Daily Mail reported that Leeds United and Rangers were amongst the host of sides that were eyeing up a move for then-West Brom forward Tyler Roberts.

Roberts was entering the final months of his contract at The Hawthorns, and the Gers were one of the sides looking to snap the 19-year-old up on a bargain deal in the summer, the Mail reported.

However, the Scottish Premiership side would miss out as Leeds spent £2.5 million on transfer deadline day, according to Sky Sports, to ensure that they saw off all of their rivals for his signature.

Roberts would sustain an injury on the training ground that has continued to delay his debut for the Whites, so there is currently a big question mark surrounding whether Leeds were right to steal a march on the other sides by signing him before the end of his contract.

Nevertheless, the Gers should perhaps look to try and get a bit of revenge on the Championship side by looking to scupper their hopes of landing one of their striker targets for the summer.

The Sun on Sunday (18/03; page 60) reported that Leeds are eyeing a move for Oli McBurnie as Paul Heckingbottom looks to enjoy a productive first window at Elland Road.

The Scottish Sun recently reported that McBurnie was being targeted by Rangers in the January window and would love to play for the Light Blues at some stage in his career.

McBurnie is proving to be an inspired signing for Barnsley – who he ultimately joined on loan from Swansea in January – so it would be no surprise if Leeds were placing him near the top of their list of summer priorities, especially with Pierre-Michel Lasogga’s loan deal set to end in the next few months.

So if Rangers could make a fresh move for McBurnie at the end of the campaign and managed to get something done, it would arguably be a great way for the Gers to get their own back on Leeds for denying them the chance to sign Roberts in a bargain deal this summer.
