Could Rangers benefit from Brewster reportedly agreeing new deal?

Glasgow Rangers are hoping to bring a new striker to Ibrox this summer, and are reportedly interested in using Steven Gerrard’s contacts.

With six signings already through the door at Rangers, the Ibrox faithful will be hoping to see Steven Gerrard now focus his attention on getting a couple of new strikers through the door, especially given some of the names that have been linked with potential moves to the Scottish Premiership.

The Sun reported in May that the Gers were interested in potential loan deals for Jermain Defoe and Dominic Solanke. Either would be superb pieces of business for Rangers, but perhaps the latter seems the more realistic given that Solanke is still young and perfecting his trade.

And perhaps it would be fair to suggest that Rangers’ hopes of landing Solanke have potentially received a significant boost this weekend amid reports concerning one of the striker’s Liverpool teammates.

According to the Liverpool Echo, youngster Rhian Brewster is on the verge of signing a new long-term deal at Anfield with Jurgen Klopp ready to have a look at the 18-year-old in pre-season with a view to potentially handing him a first-team chance during the coming campaign.

Brewster was below Solanke in the pecking order last season, but the former Chelsea ace – who earns £20,000-a-week on Merseyside, according to Spotrac – was still not a regular fixture in the Reds side himself.

Therefore, it would not be out of the question to suggest that Brewster getting more opportunities is likely to hurt Solanke the most, and that should perhaps give Gerrard hope that Klopp will decide that the best place for Solanke to be next season is Ibrox.

Herald Scotland reported in April that Celtic were closing in on a deal for Brewster, but now it appears entirely possible that by staying put, the teenager could help Rangers land one of their main striker targets for this summer.
