Glasgow Rangers winger Daniel Candeias is reportedly close to sealing a move away from Ibrox this summer.

While no Rangers fan would be surprised if the club sanctioned a number of player exits before the transfer window closed, the Ibrox faithful may have been taken aback by recent reports linking Daniel Candeias with a move this summer.

Ajansspor has suggested that the Gers winger is closing in on a move to Turkey after two years in the Scottish Premiership. It is a report that Rangers fans may not be paying too much attention to at this stage, but it may be providing some food for thought following his recent omission from their Europa League squad.

Rangers have an abundance of wide options, so it makes sense that they may cut their numbers before the deadline. Nevertheless, it would surely be a huge gamble for the Gers to let Candeias go if he is indeed edging towards the exit.

The 31-year-old has been a fantastic servant during his time with the Light Blues. He is one of the few success stories to emerge from Pedro Caixinha’s tenure, and has made nearly 100 appearances for the club in all competitions – which is staggering given that he has only been at Rangers for two years.

His work-rate has been lauded throughout his spell, and he has regularly provided goals and assists for the Gers. He may frustrate the fans occasionally with his decision-making, but he has that piece of devastating quality up his sleeve that is going to make him incredibly difficult to replace if he does leave.

Few attackers offer so much support defensively, and it would be no surprise if James Tavernier felt that Candeias’ presence was a key reason why he was able to make such an impact in the final third last term.

Gerrard may want to use him in a more peripheral role during the coming campaign. But letting him leave would be a major roll of the dice, and there are likely to be plenty of Rangers fans who are hoping that there is nothing in the reports suggesting that he is on his way.
