With Tottenham Hotspur having some very talented players in their squad, making the breakthrough into the first-team certainly isn’t an easy task.

One player who was ultimately unable to succeed in that regard is Alex Pritchard, who left Tottenham having made just two competitive senior appearances.

Pritchard’s success at Norwich – he has scored eight goals and provided 12 assists in 43 appearances – may well encourage some of Tottenham’s current fringe players that it is better to further their development elsewhere.

Unless they are a standout talent such as Harry Winks, it can be very difficult for youngsters to make the final step into the Tottenham first-team.

The likes of Shayon Harrison, Anthony Georgiou, Kazaiah Sterling and Marcus Edwards have been on the fringes of the Tottenham first-team but may well have to go out on loan in order to further their development.

Some of Tottenham’s prospects may well look to follow the path set by Pritchard, whose decision to leave Spurs has certainly been vindicated given that he is now on the verge of securing a Premier League return.

Edwards in particular has been hailed as the next big thing yet, while he recently put pen to paper on a new deal in North London, his path to the first-team football Pritchard has enjoyed for some time still seems riddled with obstacles.
