Former Watford sporting director Luke Dowling is being tipped to join Nottingham Forest.
While Luke Dowling may not have been officially been confirmed as Nottingham Forest’s new sporting director, it would appear the former Watford employee is already having an impact at the City Ground.
After Ben Watson arrival on Monday, Forest have now signed three ex-Watford players in less than a week each of whom were at Vicarage Road during Dowling’s three-year tenure.
And Watson – who followed Costel Pantilimon and Adlene Guedioura to Trentside – is unlikely to be the last past-or-present Hornet to do so in the coming months and years.
Might the next one be sooner than we think, however, with one notable ex-Watford player sitting on the free transfer list?
Dowling was at Vicarage Road when Sebastien Bassong arrived there on loan from Norwich City in late 2014, and may consider the Cameroonian once more if he arrives at the City Ground.
Not only does Bassong boast plenty of pedigree – he’s played more than 200 times in the English and French top flights and cost more than £12 million in transfer fees – the 31-year-old can cover two positions – centre-back and left-back – in which Nottingham Forest are arguably in need of strengthening, having failed to sign Michael Dawson and released Armand Traore last week.
A short-term deal could be worth exploring, and it’s possible that those at – or soon-to-be arriving at – Forest will concur.
