Swansea ace says he believes he can be England captain, should Tottenham take this at face value?
Swansea City defender Alfie Mawson was full of confidence heading into this evening’s England under-21 semi-final against Germany.
The centre-back spoke last night of his determination to go on and captain the Three Lions at senior level.
Quoted by The Mirror, Mawson said he could envision a ‘dream’ scenario where he captains club and country.
Already the England under-21 captain, Mawson is attracting interest from Tottenham Hotspur, with The Sun reporting Mauricio Pochettino is weighing up a £15 million bid.
Swansea City’s Alfie Mawson
Part of Tottenham’s consideration in making a move for the defender will be in relation to the comments he has made. Does he have the potential to go on and captain England?
If Tottenham consider that the answer is yes, then it is a no-brainer to make the £15 million offer and buy ‘low’.
Swansea City’s Alfie Mawson
Mawson has had only one season in the Premier League after his switch from Barnsley a year ago but has already made a big impression.
The transfer market at present is a crazy one, with Southampton valuing Virgil van Dijk at a staggering £60 million.
Should Mawson continue to develop at a rapid rate, his transfer value too will begin to spiral even further, especially considering the fact he is English.
Mawson has up to a decade left playing at the top level and Tottenham may be getting a potential superstar on the cheap if they move now, rather than leave it a year or two and watch his price tag rocket.
