Jamie Carragher has claimed that Pep Guardiola could have purchased ‘any fullback in the world’ yet he opted to sign Kyle Walker from Tottenham, as he told Super Sunday on Sky Sports.
In 2017, Walker was at the top of his game for a flying Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham, then those from the Etihad, with their big pockets, came knocking for his services.
Given how much money Man City have thrown at trying to get to the top, then it was obvious that Walker was going to do everything he can to move because of what they were winning, and he did, for a fee of £45 million (BBC Sport).
He has won numerous Premier League titles and League Cups during his days in Manchester, and he is still going strong by being England’s main right-back, despite the plethora of talent behind him.
Carragher shared that he is a ‘big fan’ of Walker and labelled the flying right-sided Englishman as a ‘fantastic’ player.
“I am a huge fan of his,” said Carragher. “I think he is a fantastic player. He is still England’s right-back.
“Pep Guardiola and Man City could possibly buy any fullback in the world. But he went for Kyle Walker. He has also brought Cancelo in. And he still plays him every game.
“If you have someone with the afterburners like that, it can get him out of trouble and the team.”

Guardiola did put a lot of faith into Walker’s talents and the Englishman has rewarded him.
Tottenham supporters will always wonder what would have happened if, the players that they had under Pochettino, were then backed with depth in quality in the transfer market.
But Spurs were too busy moving into their new big-money stadium, and whilst at one point, they had one of the best XI’s in the division, it’s no longer the case now.
That lack of investment when Spurs were thriving has cost them and the supporters would, no doubt, do anything to go back to the days when they were playing free-flowing football under Poch.
