The Tottenham Hotspur loanee will be hoping he has done enough during a training break in his homeland.

This week saw Tottenham Hotspur head to Spain for some warm-weather training, with third-choice goalkeeper Pau Lopez returning to more familiar surroundings as he bids to prove he has a future at White Hart Lane.

The 22-year-old arrived on loan from Espanyol in the summer in a somewhat bizarre deal given the presence of Hugo Lloris and Michel Vorm in North London. And so far he has failed to make a single appearance, having to satisfy himself with under-23 football and a place on the bench for cup clashes against Liverpool and Aston Villa.

With the FA Cup fourth round match against Wycombe Wanderers fast approaching, Lopez may take his place among the substitutes yet again. However if Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino wants to see him in first-team action, now is the perfect chance.

Lopez will be using training to do his best to impress the Spurs manager and if he does well during their brief stint in his homeland, he could force Vorm onto the bench for the weekend clash.

With the Dutchman expected to leave Tottenham in due course in the pursuit of regular first-team football, the time is right for Lopez to step up, and Pochettino’s decision could have much to do with the two ‘keepers’ performances in training this week.
