Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with the 19-year-old Greek defender.

According to a report from Greek outlet SDNA, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Panagiotis Retsos from Olympiacos this summer, and the 19-year-old could be a better long-term option than another defensive target Juan Foyth.

Earlier this summer, Spurs were said to be in the box seat for the Argentine but Talk Sport now suggests the North London club have been beaten to the punch by Paris Saint-Germain.

While Tottenham fans will be disappointed not to have signed any new players to date, they could ultimately get a better deal by missing out on Foyth but moving instead for Retsos.

Both players are 19 yet while Foyth has only featured six times for Estudiantes, Retsos has turned out on 36 occasions for Olympiacos and he became the club’s youngest ever captain against Atromitos Athens in the quarter-final of the Greek Cup last season.

Leading your side out in your teens is a privilege very few players are ever granted and it is a clear sign of the Tottenham target’s talent.

With more experience of first-team football, the talent and leadership required to take the skipper’s armband and the versatility to play anywhere across the back line or as a holding midfielder, Tottenham may be better off bringing in Retsos…if they can get a deal over the line.
