Leeds United lost playmaker Samu Saiz to Getafe earlier this week, and much of the discussion amongst fans surrounds who could replace him.

The Spaniard has returned home after nearly 18 months at Elland Road, and whilst he has been in and out of Marcelo Bielsa’s side, his creativity must be replaced.

A central attacking midfielder to be a direct replacement could be on Bielsa’s radar, but the Argentinian could could have other plans in mind.

Goal recently reported that Bielsa wants to reunite with Alaves winger Ibai Gomez having worked together at Athletic Bilbao, and links to the Spaniard have continued.

A move for the 29-year-old in the January transfer window could take place – and that may mean that Pablo Hernandez can end up being Saiz’s replacement.

With Izzy Brown injured and Lewis Baker struggling, there may be scope for Hernandez to move into a central role, filling the void left by compatriot Saiz.

You only have to look at Hernandez’s superb assist for Patrick Bamford’s winner against Bolton Wanderers on Saturday to see how creative he can be in central areas, so shifting him in from the left could be a smart move.

That would free up Gomez to play on the left instead, re-tooling Leeds’ creative options in light of Saiz’s departure without signing a direct replacement.
