Glasgow Rangers are reportedly interested in bringing Marcus Browne to Ibrox this summer, but they face competition.
Rangers’ search for a new number 10 has reportedly led Steven Gerrard to register an interest in Marcus Browne, with Goal reporting that the Gers are keen on the attacking midfielder.
However, the Light Blues face a tough challenge trying to get Browne through the Ibrox door, with Goal noting that Celtic also want the 21-year-old and Manuel Pellegrini’s current plan is to have a look at the starlet when West Ham’s players return for pre-season.
The Hammers’ reported plan suggests that Rangers and Celtic may have to play the long game if they want to land Browne. But perhaps the two Old Firm clubs may be about to get a significant boost in their pursuit of the former Oxford United loanee.
Marca reports that the Irons are set to sign Pablo Fornals for around £24 million in what would undoubtedly be a huge statement of intent from Pellegrini’s men as they look to build on the promise that they showed during the Chilean’s first season in charge at the London Stadium.
With Fornals in the ranks, Browne’s departure would surely look slightly more inevitable. The youngster is heading into the final year of his contract and is surely unlikely to get the kind of game-time during the coming season that he is looking for.
Browne would stand a much better chance of securing regular game-time in a much shorter space of time if he headed to Rangers or Celtic if West Ham manage to complete what would be a sensational deal for Fornals.
