At what point will Scott Brown begin to contemplate his future at Celtic?

Scott Brown of Celtic is seen during a training session at Lennoxtown on December 29, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Being a total professional, Celtic captain Scott Brown will understand his situation – but he won’t like it.

For the first time since Brendan Rodgers took the reins at Parkhead, Brown is not a regular in Celtic’s XI any longer.

The 33-year-old has been benched in three of the Hoops’ last four games as Callum McGregor continues to impress in that deeper midfield role.

McGregor won plenty of praise for how he performed there during Brown’s month-long layoff through injury, but he was still expected to make way when the skipper returned.

But McGregor clearly has no plans on vacating that position and the big question is how does this affect Brown’s future at Celtic?

It seems plausible that the longer Brown is out of Rodgers’s first XI, the more tempting a potential move to the MLS will be.

Last month it was reported by The Scottish Sun that Kansas City and Minnesota United wanted to sign the former Scotland international, whose Hoops deal expires next summer.

The Bhoys will obviously try and extend his contract and although Brown clearly loves the club, is he going to hang around if his first-team prospects remain bleak?

Being a total professional, he will do his utmost to wrestle his place back from McGregor, but a move Stateside might begin to look a lot more appealing for him now than it did last month.
