Newcastle United have been linked with an £8 million move for Brentford’s Jota this summer.

HITC broke the news that Brentford are set to sign Ollie Watkins from Exeter City, and that could mean that now is the time for Newcastle United to go back in for Jota.

Watkins looks to have a similar skill set for Jota, and Brentford could now be more willing to listen to offers for the talented Spaniard.

The Bees were known to be keen to keep hold of Jota at the start of the transfer window, but Watkins appears to have the potential to be his replacement.

And that may mean that they are now more receptive to offers for Jota – with Newcastle one of the clubs said to be interested in the 26-year-old.

The Sun have said that Newcastle have an eye on Jota, with an £8 million offer being considered.

And now may be the opportune time for Rafael Benitez’s side to step up their interest.

Jota scored 12 goals and claimed five assists in just five Championship matches last term, and would have the potential to be a very exciting signing for Newcastle, if the Magpies were able to complete a deal.

And although Brentford have been resolute in keeping hold of Jota to date, Watkins’ arrival at Griffin Park may just have opened the door for a potential sale.
