Nottingham Forest may have another chance to land Andy King in the summer, if they remain interested.

Forest were heavily linked with King in the January transfer window, but he opted to move to Derby County, out of respect to Leicester City.

He said, explaining his decision to the Derby Telegraph: “I think the Leicester Forest rivalry was a little more (than the Derby versus Leicester rivalry) and always something I was going to be sensitive of.

“As it stands, Derbyare in a better position, and maybe play a style of football which is maybe more suited to how I want to play. I spent years at Chelsea as a kid watching the manager (Frank Lampard) play, so that was a big pull for me as well.

“Forest is a great club, also, a massive club but the odds were probably just stacked in Derby’s favour the minute I knew they were interested.”

If Forest were to move again, King’s opinion may well have changed – particularly as the move would likely be permanent in the summer.

New Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers has suggested that he isn’t opposed to keeping King, but he may not be able to offer the experienced midfielder the game time that he wants.

“Ultimately for players it is about game time. They want to play, and he is at an age where he will want to play,” Rodgers told the Leicester Mercury.

“If we can offer him that then great. If not then he may think of going somewhere else, but at this moment in time he is injured and it is difficult for me to say too much at the moment.”

The comments could alert Forest to King’s potential availability, as he was on Martin O’Neill’s wishlist in his initial few months at the City Ground.

King could offer Forest energy and experience in midfield, which could be crucial next season.

And O’Neill may well have taken note of Rodgers’ most recent comments about the Welsh international, as they could well be of interest to him.
