Dean Ashton has torn into Marcus Rashford on talkSPORT for a ‘lack of interest’ and urges Ralf Rangnick to take the Arsenal transfer target out of the Manchester United squad fully.
The former England forward feels Rashford is playing void of any confidence right now and is not justifying his selection. So, Ashton feels interim Red Devils boss Rangnick should take the 24-year-old out of the spotlight completely to allow him to hit reset and clear his mind.
Rashford played his 19th Premier League game so far this term in Manchester United’s win over Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday. Rangnick also started the 46-cap England ace for his 10th opening call. But he gave nothing in the final-third and let Spurs enjoy a lot of width.

Rangnick saw enough from Spurs’ wingers exploiting Rashford to remove the forward after 68-minutes. He was Manchester United’s first change of the evening, with Anthony Elanga replacing him before the 19-year-old offered a more energetic presence in their attack.
Ashton tears into Arsenal target Marcus Rashford’s ‘lack of interest’ at Man Utd
Rashford accepts his recent form has not been acceptable, so has hardly started games for Manchester United, per the Mirror. Yet they add the Red Devils value him at £70m and are set to trigger a one-year contract extension to keep him tied down at Old Trafford to 2024.
Doing so will dent Arsenal’s hope of a transfer with Manchester United for Rashford in the summer. 90min note the Gunners, Newcastle, West Ham and Atletico Madrid are tracking his situation, as the increasingly frustrated Red Devils product is now considering leaving.

In the immediate, however, Ashton feels Rangnick must remove Rashford from his line-up. He has scored four goals and provided two top-flight assists so far this term. But the young forward has now gone six appearances without scoring and four with registering an assist.
“Rashford, oh my word!” Ashton said. “I know I’ve seen it on telly but when you see it live, I could not believe the player I was watching.
“Shattered confidence, lack of interest, this is meant to be the club he’s grown up loving. He’s supposed to represent the supporters from Manchester and what it means to play for Manchester United. There just wasn’t any of that there.
“I think he needs taking right out of the way, out of the squad completely. There’s obviously an issue there mentally, because he just doesn’t look right at all.”
