Rangers and Nottingham Forest have been linked with moves for the German centre-back, but Norwich City could be the most appropriate destination.
But given the 21-year-old’s background, it would not be entirely unexpected to see Norwich City’s name crop up at some point.
Norwich are, after all, managed by Mbende’s compatriot David Farke, who has already used his connections to bring in Christophe Zimmerman from old club Borussia Dortmund.
Incidentally, Mbende also spent time on the German giants’ books – six years in fact – before a short spell at Birmingham City.
However, the Cameroon born player quit the Blues a year ago, returning to the country of his upbringing to study and play for Chemnitzer FC in the third tier.
Evidently, things are going rather well. Mbende helped the Saxony side to an eighth-placed finish last season and the stature of linked clubs Rangers and Forest suggests he’s ready to step up.
Having said that, neither club are especially short in Mbende’s position – Rangers have Fabio Cardoso, Bruno Alves, Danny Wilson and David Bates, among others, with Forest’s options comprising Joe Worral, Michael Mancienne, Matt Mills and Jack Hobbs – which arguably makes Norwich the more appropriate destination.
The Canaries released Ryan Bennett, Sebastien Bassong and Michael Turner this summer, with only Zimmerman coming in.

Should Norwich rival Rangers and Forest for Mbende’s signature?
