With Rangers forward Kenny Miller ruled out for an unknown period due to a ruptured hamstring, the Gers need to find the right man to step in for the Scottish veteran, and a controversial choice could make all the difference if he is given a prolonged run in the team.

Niko Kranjcar is not every Rangers fan’s cup of tea, yet the former Croatian international possesses the innate talent and the experience to step in for Miller and out-perform a player who has not always done enough despite his obvious passion for the club.

Niko Kranjcar of Rangers takes a free kick during the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Rangers and St Johnstone at Ibrox Stadium on December 16, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Miller is not as mobile or as prolific as he used to be, meaning that bringing in Kranjcar would not negate the club’s attack but could in fact improve it.

What striker Alfredo Morelos needs is quality balls into the box and Kranjcar still has an eye for a great pass, as well as the desire to make up for lost time at Ibrox.

With the pace provided by the likes of Josh Windass and Daniel Candeias, their Rangers teammate Kranjcar could operate at a slower but still important pace, and he could easily beat Miller’s goal return this season with some time to build up momentum.

Some Rangers fans believe Kranjcar should be shown the door, however, given the recent blow to Miller, he could get the chance to prove those doubters wrong.
