According to a recent report from the Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur put their pursuit of Jadon Sancho on hold only to see him move from Manchester City to Borussia Dortmund this summer, and in a twist of fate Spurs could come up against the exceptional teenager later this month.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side play Dortmund in their opening Champions League group game of the new campaign a week tomorrow, and having been given the number seven shirt by his new club, it would be no surprise if Sancho plays some part despite his tender age.

Jadon Sancho of England celebrates after the UEFA Under-17 EURO Qualifier between U17 Austria and U17 England on October 30, 2016 at Anghel Iordanescu stadium in Voluntari, Romania.

The Bundesliga club have made a habit of signing the best young talent in Europe for knockdown prices before selling them on at huge profit – as demonstrated by Ousman Dembele’s mega move to Barcelona earlier this summer – and Sancho will be hoping to have a similar impact to the French international, albeit for more than a single season.

Sancho fit the bill as a Tottenham signing, with innate talent, years to improve and the ability to fit straight into the senior squad despite his lack of experience thus far.

Mauricio Pochettino, manager of Spurs looks on prior to the Pre-Season Friendly match beween Tottenham Hotspur and Juventus at Wembley Stadium on August 5, 2017 in London, England.

Instead he moved to Germany, in part due to the issues Tottenham would have faced when it came to paying a tribunal fee for the 17-year-old.

Will he make Spurs instantly regret their decision? Only time will tell. But over the next few years do not be surprised if he blossoms into a huge star, leaving Tottenham supporters to wonder what might have been.
