The teenager is currently training with Sunderland’s first-team.
With Sunderland fighting for their Premier League future, the prospect of manager Sam Allardyce giving any of the club’s next generation a debut between now and May is very slim.
But could next season see one of the club’s brightest prospects make the breakthrough at the Stadium of Light?
Ethan Robson has been with Sunderland since he was just eight and 11 years later he is training with the first-team as he attempts to catch Allardyce’s attention.
The 19-year-old is predominantly a central midfielder although his versatility has been clear this season with stints on both wings and as a right-back for the Black Cats’ under-21s.
He has featured 22 times at that level to date, including 16 times this season, and it is surely only a matter of time before he is given a chance in Sunderland’s senior squad.
This season will come too soon, but training with the first-team is certainly a step in the right direction and learning from players like Lee Cattermole and Yann M’Vila will only improve his game.
