Southampton interested in Stuart Armstrong, so if the midfielder leaves Celtic should they replace him with Newcastle’s Jonjo Shelvey?
Ross McCrorie of Rangers vies with Stuart Armstrong of Celtic during the Scottish Premier League match at Celtic Park.
Following the success of Virgil van Dijk and Victor Wanyama after the same move, Southampton are now considering a £10m bid for Celtic’s Stuart Armstrong, reports the Scotsman.
The Saints were also interested in Armstrong over the summer but had their enquiries knocked back, yet are now getting ready to revisit the deal.
Virgil van Dijk of Liverpool celebrates as he scores their second goal during the Emirates FA Cup Third Round match against Everton.
Both Van Dijk and Wanyama enjoyed success at St Mary’s following a switch from the Hoops, with the duo having now moved on to Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur respectively.
So if Armstrong does leave Parkhead, should manager Brendan Rodgers consider a reunion with former player Jonjo Shelvey to fill the void left by the 25-year-old?
Jonjo Shelvey of Newcastle United celebrates scoring his team’s third goal during The Emirates FA Cup Third Round match against Luton Town.
Rodgers managed Shelvey for a season when both were at Anfield in 2012/13 and the Newcastle United midfielder has recently been linked with an exit from St James’ Park by the Express.
The report says that West Ham United are interested in the England international and are prepared to pay £12m to land him, but should the Bhoys be ready to compete with the East Londoners for the 25-year-old’s signature?
