With one of their key goalscorers ruled out, PSV may be a little more stubborn in the winter window?
It goes to show the extent of Siem De Jong’s relentless injury woes that reports claiming his recent resurgence has been cut cruelly short have been met with little other than knowing tuts and accepting shakes of the head.
After all, Sunday’s 1-1 draw with title rivals and fierce enemies PSV summed up his career quite poetically, with elation followed by dejection. Moments after firing home a late equaliser, his second goal on loan with PSV against the club he lead to five Eredivisie titles no less, it was revealed that De Jong had suffered a groin tear and will be out until at least mid-January.
The seldom-seen midfielder’s future at parent club Newcastle United appears to rest on whether he could demonstrate both his quality and fitness at the Phillips Stadium and while the former is hardly in doubt, the latter could once again hold him back.

But it’s not just Newcastle who could feel the ramifications of this latest blow. According to The Sun, Ronald Koeman’s is keen on bringing compatriot Luciano Narsingh to Everton from the current champions in January.
However, the absence of De Jong’s cutting edge and goalscoring prowess from deep, coupled with the recent barren run of younger brother and fellow Newcastle flop Luuk, means PSV are more reliant than ever upon the rapid pace and calm finishing of their electric left winger.

Narsingh is out of contract in the summer but PSV would surely rather keep hold of one of their trusted starters and attempt to bridge the seven point gap between themselves and leaders Feyenoord.
Losing him on a free in the summer would certainly feel a lot less damaging with a league title to act as a consolation.
