Newcastle United have been linked with Crystal Palace’s Andros Townsend for some time.
With Crystal Palace badly struggling in the Premier League, Newcastle United may finally be able to complete a deal for Andros Townsend in January.
Newcastle have been linked with Townsend in the past two transfer windows, as reported by the Daily Telegraph – but no deal has materialised.
Rafael Benitez is a known admirer of the winger, who Newcastle had for a six month spell where he seriously impressed.
Townsend joined Newcastle back in 2016, and he was one of the very few players to come out of their relegation season with any credit.
The England international quickly moved on following the Magpies’ relegation, but at the moment Benitez’s side look a lot more secure of their Premier League status than Palace.
The Eagles have not picked up a point or even scored yet, and if Roy Hodgson’s side continue to struggle then they may already be cut adrift in January.
That could provide Newcastle with an opportunity to lodge a bid for Townsend, and the circumstances now mean that a transfer is far more likely than at any point since the 26-year-old left St. James’ Park.
