Newcastle United look set to be promoted back to the Premier League.
It’s been a rumour that hasn’t gone away, but this summer could present Newcastle United with a chance to bring Hatem Ben Arfa back to St. James’ Park.
Ben Arfa spent four years at Newcastle, before a falling out with Alan Pardew led to his exit.
After leaving Newcastle, Ben Arfa went on to impress at Nice before getting a move to PSG.
However, since switching to the French giants, Ben Arfa has struggled – with his game time limited.
The mercurial attacker has now been linked with a move back to England – with Southampton talked up as one of his most likely destinations (Chronicle).
But while Ben Arfa remains available, a section of Newcastle fans will want Rafael Benitez to make a move.
Ben Arfa remains a hugely popular figure on Tyneside, as at his best he was one of the most exciting players that has worn the black and white strip in recent times.
The French international was a solo match winner at times, and he would certainly add creativity to Newcastle’s forward line.
Of course, Newcastle would almost certainly have to be a Premier League club if they were to have a chance of landing Ben Arfa – but promotion looks a strong possibility.
And the positivity that would be created by a Ben Arfa return surely makes the transfer a potentially exciting one for Benitez, as he looks ahead to the summer.
