Newcastle United were dealt a blow in their reported pursuit of Luka Jovic last week.

According to a report from 90 Min, the soon-to-be wealthy Magpies are interested in signing the out-of-favour Real Madrid marksman.

But that prospect suffered a big blow last week when it was reported that the Serbian hitman had somehow managed to break his foot in a non-football incident.

But if a new report is true, Newcastle could still sign him.

That’s because according to Mundo Deportivo, the 22-year-old might only be sidelined for around two months.

We still don’t know when the transfer window is going to be open, amid the global health emergency.

But it probably won’t be within two months and therefore Jovic could and probably will be fully healed by then, meaning that a switch to the North-East may not be totally off the cards irrespective of his injury.

Whether Newcastle have the money to sign Jovic – who cost Real £62 million last summer – is another thing.

The St James’s Park club are still waiting for the Premier League to greenlight Mike Ashley’s £300 million sale of the club to a Saudi-led group.
