The young Rangers player is tipped for a very bright future at Ibrox.
According to a recent report from the Scottish Sun, Rangers teenager Billy Gilmour was included in the travelling squad for the Gers’ Scottish Cup tie against Morton this weekend.
That prompted headlines suggesting the 15-year-old could become Rangers’ youngest ever player if he got on the pitch.
That was not to be, with Gilmour failing to make the match-day squad, but that does not mean he should lose all hope of getting some minutes under his belt in the short term.
After all, with Mark Warburton recently leaving Ibrox after a poor run of form, there will be a new permanent manager at the helm sooner rather than later.
Whoever that man is, he will look to freshen things up and making Gilmour a record-breaker would certainly bring some of the feel-good factor back to a Rangers side struggling to get anywhere near their fierce rivals Celtic in their first season back in the Scottish Premiership.
Gilmour still has a few months to break the record and become Rangers’ youngest ever first-team player.
For now Rangers will be focused on appointing the right man and ensuring they start to chip away at the lead Celtic have over them before making a real challenge next season.
And if the new man has the same feelings as Gers caretaker boss Graeme Murty, Gilmour could be tasked with staking an early claim of his own.
