Sunderland have been without a manager for more than two weeks since Simon Grayson’s sacking.

There might soon be a new name in the running to become Sunderland’s next manager, after Oscar Garcia resigned from his role as Saint Etienne boss on Wednesday.
The Spaniard boasts an impressive CV, which includes title success in Israel (Maccabi Tel Aviv) and Austria (Red Bull Salzburg, twice).
He also boasts Championship experience, following spells at Brighton & Hove Albion, whom he led to the play-offs in 2014, and Watford, during the Hornets’ promotion campaign.
Sunderland would therefore be wise to explore the 44-year-old’s appointment, more than two weeks on from Simon Grayson’s sacking.

On the negative side however, Garcia’s managerial career is more a series of one-night stands than a handful of long-term relationships. Indeed, his spell at Saint Etienne was the third time he’s left a club within six months of taking over.
A repeat performance at Sunderland would be the last thing the Mackems need – although his record at clubs at which he has stuck things out suggests he could be a gamble worth taking.
