Rio Ferdinand said on Rio Ferdinand Presents FIVE that he cannot believe that he saw Arsenal defender Rob Holding wearing the captain’s armband.
The former Manchester United defender does not seem to think that Holding is good enough to play for or captain Arsenal.
As reported by The Sun, the 25-year-old defender recently wore the captain’s armband against Everton.
Ferdinand said on Rio Ferdinand Presents FIVE: “When you see Rob Holding as your captain, no disrespect, at Arsenal Football Club, you could never have imagined that a few years ago.”
Rob Holding has done well for Arsenal this season
Holding is not a world-class defender and cannot be compared to some of the best centre-backs Arsenal have had over the years.
However, the 25-year-old is doing well for the Gunners this season and has taken his chances.
The Englishman has established himself as an important player in manager Mikel Arteta’s squad, and, according to The Telegraph, the Gunners plan to hand him a new contract.
According to WhoScored, Holding has made 13 starts and one substitute appearance in the Premier League and has played 45 minutes in the Europa League for Arsenal so far this season.
For Arsenal to have a successful season and finish in the top four of the Premier League table this season, Holding will have to be on top of his game throughout.
