Could Moussa Sissoko become the next Benjamin Stambouli at Tottenham under ruthless coach?

Do not be surprised if Tottenham midfielder Moussa Sissoko is sent packing within a year.

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Moussa Sissoko has had a rocky start since his big money move from Newcastle United.

He has failed to strike the right note on the pitch with his performances, at a time when he was immediately under pressure to perform in the Champions League.

Sissoko was left out of Tottenham’s squad at the weekend against Chelsea, with head coach Mauricio Pochettino stating it was a tactical move, quoted by The Independent.

For a player who cost £30 million in the summer, it is an embarrassing look, and perhaps an intended slap down from the manager, in relation to his performances, and voiced disagreement this week over where the club should pay their Europa League games.

Yet if Spurs are worrying they may be stuck with Sissoko long term, don’t bet on it.

Already in his tenure as Tottenham boss, Pochettino has shown he is prepared to be ruthless, and not double down on bad signings.

Sissoko’s fellow Frenchman Benjamin Stambouli is the clearest example, barely picked at all, and sold after just 12 months in a surprise move to PSG.

Federico Fazio was sidelined to a reserve role after 12 months and sold a year later, while Clinton N’Jie was packed off on loan after just one season.

If Sissoko cannot convince Pochettino he is worthy of a first team spot, do not expect the Argentine to be willing to keep him around.

Chairman Daniel Levy could well have some negotiating to do next summer…
