Adama Traore continues to impress for Middlesbrough so should Tottenham take a closer look?

Adama Traore put in a match-winning performance for Middlesbrough at the weekend as he provided two assists in a 3-0 victory at Bolton Wanderers in the Championship.

It has not always been his positive for the winger since arriving in England in the summer of 2015, joining Aston Villa from Barcelona in a £7m deal (BBC).

When the Villans were relegated 12 months later Traore left for Boro and then when they too went down in 2016/17, the 21-year-old was once again linked with an exit – with the Metro claiming in June that Chelsea were among the interested sides.

As it was, this time the former Spain Under-19 international stayed put, which looks to be Garry Monk’s gain as the forward showed his manager exactly what he is capable of against Bolton with a display full of determination and raw pace and power, twice tearing apart the Trotters defence to lay it on perfectly for Britt Assombalonga to score.

Traore was showing what all the fuss has been about, which has not always been the case for a player with so much potential, but as yet only an end product evident in fits and starts.

Yet the Spaniard is still only 21 and with an education at La Masia under his belt, Premier League teams should be taking a closer look at what this exciting young talent could offer.

Tottenham Hotspur are a side in particular that could quite possibly benefit from someone like Traore, a strong and quick presence out wide to complement the more technically-minded Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen and the perennially willing goalscorer that is Harry Kane.

Following a hard fought 1-0 win over Middlesbrough in February, Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino told the Gazette this about the former Barca man: “Traore is a player who is very problematic and can put us in very difficult situations.”

It would be a gamble and Traore is far from the finished product, but under a coach who loves to promote and develop youth in Pochettino, the forward could shine in North London.
