A potential Rangers return for Alex McLeish could be on the cards. What about Alan Hutton?

Rangers have been linked with bringing back former boss Alex McLeish to solve their managerial situation.
If McLeish did take on the role, it is likely he would consider a move for his former protege Alan Hutton.

McLeish has worked with Hutton three times, bringing him into the Rangers first team all the way back in 2002.
He then handed him his Scotland debut in 2007, and immediately signed him for Aston Villa in 2011 on a four-year deal.

Remarkably after several ups and downs which have included three loans, Hutton remains an Aston Villa player and is holding off competition for a first team place from James Bree.
Bringing Hutton back to replace James Tavernier could be a shrewd move by Rangers, but they would need to persuade him it is right for his career.
It is likely only McLeish could manage to do that, but it would be a statement of intent if he wanted to put his stamp on recreating an identity of a side who knows how to win in Scotland.
