Leeds United are reportedly set to miss out on Matt Clarke, but his expected move could still bring good news for Marcelo Bielsa.

According to a recent report from TEAMtalk, Leeds are set to be dealt a transfer blow with Brighton set to win the race to sign Matt Clarke with the Premier League side ready to pay £6 million for the defender who has also been linked with a move to Elland Road.

Marcelo Bielsa is still awaiting his first signing of the summer, and it is little surprise that a defensive addition had been on his radar following a campaign in which Liam Cooper, Pontus Jansson and Gaetano Berardi all spent time on the sidelines due to injury.

Unfortunately for Leeds however, Clarke appears to be heading elsewhere with a reported £6 million move on the cards. But that deal could still have one major upside for the Whites.

The Yorkshire Evening Post recently reported that Leeds are also keen on loaning Ben White from the Seagulls this summer.

Clarke’s arrival at the Amex Stadium may leave Graham Potter much more willing to consider loaning White out for the campaign. And if Bielsa is prepared to hand him a prominent first-team role, Elland Road may be the ideal destination.

Landing Clarke would have been a fantastic statement for Leeds to make at the start of the summer. But White has a lot of potential having impressed in both of his previous loan spells, and could be a shrewd addition for the Championship side – and perhaps Clarke’s move elsewhere will pave the way for Bielsa to get the 21-year-old through the door.
