Linked with a move to the Championship, could Leeds United be Odegaard’s destination?

Some Leeds United fans discussing signing Martin Odegaard on loan from Real Madrid.
But what are the chances the Norwegian could arrive at Elland Road this month?
HITC Sport takes a look…
What’s his situation?
It has been claimed that Odegaard could leave Real Madrid on loan again this summer, with the Championship – specifically Aston Villa, Derby County or Middlesbrough – touted as a likely destination.
Would Leeds want him?
New boss Marcelo Bielsa is said to want another winger, while the versatile Odegaard spent most of last season playing there for Heerenveen. His ability to operate in multiple roles would likely appeal to Bielsa, whose fluid system is rapidly earning plaudits. The 19-year-old also speaks both English and Spanish, which would make Bielsa’s life a little easier.

But why would he choose Leeds?
The Bielsa appeal should not be underestimated – just ask Lewis Baker, who admitted being drawn to Leeds by the Argentine’s presence – while the Whites’ strong start to the season is attractive in itself. Leeds’ connection to Spanish football (through sporting director Victor Orta), and specifically Real Madrid (through director Ivan Bravo), could also work in their favour, as could their popularity in Odegaard’s homeland – which produced former Whites players Alf-Inge Haaland [below, right] and Eirik Bakke.

Any obstacles?
Several others have been linked, with Vitesse Arnhem front runners, according to reports in Spain. And Real are said to want all of his £30,000-a-week wage covered, which could be a little out of Leeds’ budget for a player who might not play every week.
