Celtic have been linked with departing Southampton defender Martin Caceres.
According to a recent report in The Sun, Celtic are interested in signing Martin Caceres in the summer transfer window.
It has been reported by the British tabloid that Caceres has decided to leave Southampton due to lack of playing time, and that Celtic have made contact with the defender.
The Uruguay international is a hugely experienced player who can operate as a centre-back or as a right-back.
True, the former Barcelona and Juventus defender has had injury problems and is probably past his prime, but the 30-year-old could prove to be another Kolo Toure for Celtic.
Toure joined Celtic in the summer of 2016 on a free transfer. The 36-year-old could make only 11 starts in all competitions for the Bhoys this past season and made just five substitute appearances.
The former Arsenal and Liverpool centre-back was signed by Celtic to add valuable Champions League experience to the squad and to bring a winning mentality.
The former Ivory Coast international did just that, and Caceres could do just so as well. The Uruguayan has won La Liga, Serie A and the Champions League; he has a winning mentality and extensive experience of playing for top clubs in Europe.

Celtic should win the Scottish Premiership title again next season without Caceres, but for the Bhoys to qualify for the group stage of the Champions League and make a big impact in Europe’s premier club competition, they could do with a player like the Uruguayan.
