Tottenham Hotspur are set to take on Gent tomorrow in the Europa League.

Marcus Edwards has been in training with Tottenham Hotspur’s first-team prior to their match against Gent in the Europa League, and there may be an argument to suggest that Mauricio Pochettino should throw the youngster in at the deep end tomorrow night.

Tottenham may be playing to avoid a premature exit from the European competition, after losing the first leg in Belgium 1-0, but Edwards could be the spark needed to break Spurs out of their European slump.

Pochettino’s side failed in the Champions League, and their performance in Belgium last week was nothing short of awful.

Tottenham played without tempo or creativity, and were deservedly beaten by Gent in the contest.

Spurs are now playing to stay in the competition, and will need to play to the maximum of their ability if they are to overturn the deficit.

It would be a tough ask for Edwards to step up, but Tottenham’s more senior players have struggled at Wembley, and the attacker’s fearless approach could be exactly what is needed to spark Spurs into life at the national stadium.

Edwards has been on the verge of a first-team breakthrough for some time at Spurs now, and Pochettino has always trusted youngsters throughout his managerial career.

Starting Edwards would require masses of faith, and it would be a major gamble, but if Pochettino shows the bravery of picking the youngster, the rewards could be huge.
