The Tottenham Hotspur teenager is closing in on a return.

In comments recently published by Football London, Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino confirmed that teenager Marcus Edwards was almost ready to return to first-team training.

The 18-year-old looked to be making the breakthrough this season – after years of justified hype about his ability and potential – before an ankle injury saw him consigned to the side-lines.

However, after Pochettino explained that Edwards is “very close” to training with Tottenham’s senior stars once more, one wonders if fans could get a glimpse of him as early as this month.

Any chances Edwards gets in the short term are likely to be in the cup competitions and Tottenham take on Wycombe Wanderers in the fourth round of the FA Cup on 28 January.

That gives the teenager 13 days to step up his return to full fitness and it will be interesting to see if he earns a place on the bench against their lower league opponents.

Of course, Edwards’ career is only just beginning so there will be no rushing the player back, but with Pochettino acknowledging that Edwards will decide when he is ready to return, it seems there is no issue with the ankle he twisted back in November.

A match against Wycombe could be the perfect way for him to return, showing the Tottenham fans another glimpse of his skills and building on the 15 minutes he had against Gillingham in the EFL Cup earlier in the campaign.
