Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for the West Ham United midfielder?

According to the Mirror, Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino is keeping a close eye on the progress of West Ham United’s Manuel Lanzini ahead of a potential bid, and one wonders how the Argentine would perform alongside Christian Eriksen if the pair turned out for Spurs in the future.

Eriksen is Tottenham’s main play-maker and he has grown into a hugely influential performer since his £11.5million move from Ajax in 2013 (BBC), but there is a feeling among some Spurs fans that the club need another attacking midfielder to ease the burden on the Danish international and cover at various times throughout the campaign.

Lanzini could certainly do that, but he would not leave West Ham to act as anyone’s backup, which raises the question as to whether the pair could perform effectively together and potentially form one of the Premier League’s most exciting attacking duos behind a main striker.

Tottenham have plenty of flair in their side but Lanzini would add significantly more and, provided Pochettino could get him and Eriksen to blossom rather than negate each other’s influence, a partnership could be the envy of club’s across Europe.

With the pair occupying the space directly behind Kane in an attacking trio, Tottenham could be devastating, especially when you also factor in the presence of Dele Alli.

It may require a change of formation from Pochettino, and it may simply be a case of too many cooks, but if Spurs signed Lanzini and developed him alongside Eriksen, it could be a joy to watch.
