West Ham have been linked with a move for Jonny Evans but could Manchester United consider bringing back the West Brom captain?

Jonny Evans looks set to leave West Bromwich Albion this summer whether they are relegated or not, but could leave for just £3m if they do go down.

As Birmingham Live reports, Evans has a release clause written into his contract if the Baggies drop into the Championship and West Ham United are interested in activating it should the opportunity arise.

David Moyes, Manager of West Ham United looks on prior to the Premier League match between Liverpool and West Ham United at Anfield on February 24, 2018 in Liverpool, England.

Everton and Leicester City are also interested in the 30-year-old, who is expected to exit the Hawthorns at the end of the season even if bottom-placed West Brom make up their seven-point gap to achieve survival.

Could the Hammers be trumped?

However, is there a chance that Jose Mourinho will look to undo predecessor Louis van Gaal’s mistake and bring the defender back to Manchester United?

In December the Mirror reported that Mourinho felt Van Gaal’s decision to sell Evans to the West Midlands side for £6m in 2015 was a huge mistake and was considering a bid for the Northern Ireland international during the January transfer window.

While that never materialised in the end, with a different report from the Mirror last month claiming the Red Devils were prepared to sell Phil Jones and Chris Smalling this summer ahead of a defensive revamp, perhaps re-signing the centre-back still remains a possibility – especially for just £3m.
