The Manchester city defender is a reported summer transfer target for Liverpool.

Liverpool have been quite simply wonderful to watch this season, but the addition of another top-class centre-half will surely feature highly on Jürgen Klopp’s wish list this summer, and Manchester City’s John Stones could be just the man for the job.

According to the Sun, the Reds are interested in signing the 23-year-old, with City prepared to sell him for somewhere in the region of the £50 million that they paid Everton for his services two years ago.

Stones has struggled to live up to expectations since moving to the Etihad in the summer of 2016, with Pep Guardiola reportedly growing tired of his lacklustre displays.

The England international still has so much to offer at the very highest level, though, and he could be an absolutely superb signing for the Merseyside outfit.

Stones is a ball-playing centre-half, and his attributes would perfectly compliment Virgil van Dijk’s at Anfield.

The Dutchman is more of an old-fashioned type defender, and is at his best when displaying his aerial prowess and strength in the challenge.

Having Stones line up alongside him next season would give Liverpool great balance at the back, and the City man’s ability to carry the ball out from defence into midfield would surely help the Reds with their transitional play.

In today’s day and age, £50 million for the 23-year-old would surely be considered decent value, despite his inconsistency over this past 12 months, and if Klopp does in fact manage to bring him to Anfield, it could turn out to be a signing of real significance for Liverpool.
