Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with the Watford man but he has only just started his Premier League journey.

According to the London Evening Standard, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in Watford winger Richarlison but, given the money it would take to prise him away, could Spurs be put off by the poor form of another previously hailed winger?

Riyad Mahrez was the golden child of the Premier League just a few short years ago, to such an extent that the great and the good of the game were linked with the Algeria international.

Riyad Mahrez of Leicester looks on during the pre-season friendly match between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Leicester City at Molineux on July 29, 2017 in Wolverhampton, England.

In Leicester City’s famous title-winning campaign, Mahrez was one of the standout stars, finishing the season with 18 goals and 10 assists in 39 appearances.

The problem is, that is as good as it got for Mahrez and, two years on, he remains at the King Power Stadium, struggling to recreate those heady days.

At just 20, Richarlison is far younger than the Leicester man was win he tore opponents apart week in, week out, but it would still be a risk spending big on a player who Tottenham missed the boat on the last time round.

Daniel Levy (R) looks on during the Premier League match between West Bromwich Albion and Tottenham Hotspur at The Hawthorns on October 15, 2016 in West Bromwich, England.

If Tottenham wanted a bargain, they should have signed the Brazilian ahead of Watford, instead they will now have to pay top dollar to even stand a chance of sealing a deal.

A couple of years ago Mahrez would have cost around the same amount and that could have proved to be a costly error.

In truth Richarlison looks a cut above the Algerian and should go on to great things, but the Premier League is rife with foolish acquisitions and Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy may write this one off as a missed opportunity.
